Charleston Midtown

Horizontal and vertical irregularities, high seismicity and liquefiable soils required a modal response spectrum analysis for the proposed mixed use development in Historic Charleston Peninsula.

The lateral force-resisting system consists of special reinforced concrete shear walls that are detailed for plastic response to seismic forces. Location and stiffness of shear walls were optimized to minimize the torsional behavior of the structure under earthquake loads. The columns were also custom designed for their individual responses to seismic forces based on compatibility to amplified global plastic deformations.

In the animation above, the real deflections are scaled up 200 times for effect.
